Why Do People Blame ‘music’ For Someone’s Insanity?

Written on February 16, 2010 – 4:33 pm by admin

An example of this in recent media is:
Slipknot silent over South Africa school samurai killing http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnew…
But before that it was Marilyn Manson and the Insane Clown Posy and various Heavy Metal bands…
Someone goes nuts and it CAN’T just be that they are fu*king crazy!
“THE MEDIA MADE THEM DO IT!” is such a cop out!
It makes as much sense as “The Twinkies Defense”
I love Metal… Industrial… Techno… I LOVE violent media like movies and television…
My fave comic series is called “Johnny The Homicidal Maniac”.
Because I watch a documentary on arson doesn’t mean that I’m going to light my house on fire!
I would never go out and just start stabbing people because I want to be like the people in the various forms of media I enjoy!
Why does the population at large try to take away personal responsibility for the actions of crazy people and say that “It MUST be the music!”?
Couldn’t it be that people that are ill are drawn to specific types of media and not that the media caused them to be ill?
Sigh…
With so much censorship in our world, I’m horrified whenever I see another case of “The music made me do it!”
What are your opinions on this topic?
Do you really think that if you take a good person and lock them in a room with Marilyn Manson and Slipknot music and a repeating loop of the movie “The Condemned” can actually drive a perfectly normal child to commit murder?
(And why is no one putting the blame on the creators of the animated series “Samurai Jack” since when the boy walked in to the room, said “that shortly before the incident he had teased the boy, calling him “Samurai Jack” because of his ninja-style garb and the three swords he was carrying.”
Why blame the music when it may have been the CARTOON that drove him to insanity!?!? (Sarcasm)
